Prince Bishops Community Bank work with schools in Mid Durham, Weardale, Derwent Valley and Tynedale to help set up their very own savings bank within the school, providing an early education for juniors that can lead to a healthy knowledge and positive attitude to money in later life. The school savings points are run by volunteers recruited from staff, children and parents.
Saving days run once a week on a day that is specified by the school; this helps the junior members get into a regular savings habit, but it also prepares them for financial education in Key Stages 3 and 4, and adult life. The project is supported to promote a pattern of saving and is not about how much is saved. There is no minimum savings amount, so this means every child can participate.
We provide ongoing support to the schools and volunteers to help the savings point run smoothly, but importantly, we help schools deliver a positive message about financial health from an early age.Our Schools Development Coordinator Paul Atkinson, and our Head Office Staff, will provide ongoing support within your school or via email and telephone.Read a progress report on the Community Bank from one of our flagship schools....here
